Connecting Law Enforcement and Young People in an Environment of Mutual Trust and Respect

A traffic stop is the most common reason a young person will come in contact with the police. This is a stressful situation for everybody, especially for young people.

The Be SMART + Be SAFE program is committed to helping prevent traffic stops and other interactions between young people and law enforcement from escalating into an arrest or crisis.

A take-home booklet with ten lessons teaches young people about their rights, responsibilities, and proper interactions with law enforcement officers so all encounters result in positive outcomes and everyone gets home safely.
